TONE is a media project I founded in 2023. The concept is a video series where a rapper performs a track live while a painter simultaneously creates a visual interpretation of the music. The project aims to bring different art forms together, expressing the same message through two creative languages: sound and image. This concept was a series of episodes with a different duo of artists performing in each episode. The goal was to match two artists with complementary styles to achieve a strong artistic alchemy. Before each episode, we recorded the “Entrevue,” a chat between the two artists, where they discussed the song and the performance they were going to create, in order to align on the core message.
At that moment of my life, my passion for sport was strongly accompanied by my passion for music. I was a beatmaker in a label, and inspired by COLORS, I had this idea of mixing arts. I had this thought in mind: “Why don’t we mix arts if their goal is the same: to spread a message? The only difference is the language.” Thanks to my label, my network, my friends, and the skills I acquired at Ecole W, I was able to set up this concept. I had contacts in the music industry, a studio, filmmaker friends, sound engineer friends… Everything was ready; the only thing missing was the courage to do it and the investment required to create such a project. I presented the project at Ecole W and HEC Paris, and the concept really attracted attention. It was at that moment that I told myself I had to do it.
I ended this project a few months ago. In fact, I wanted to focus more on my first passion, which is sport, and started my freelance activity. I also started studying at EDHEC at that time, in the city of Roubaix, which made things more difficult. But I’m really proud of what I did. I think it was a great project to undertake, and discovering new things while building experience in what I want to work in later (sports) seemed like a good decision.
I think this project really helped me see the gap between what we study at school and reality. I was genuinely curious to see how far what we train to do at school is from real-life experience. And in fact, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it is even more exciting to do it in real life. This project brought me a lot of experience and opportunities. For example, I had the chance to be a jury member at Ecole W (my previous school) for the W7 promotion. Really inspiring ideas from students that made me want to continue developing TONE. But ultimately, the main reason I did this project was for the moments shared. It was not a financially driven project, but simply the ambition to create a concept that I found beautiful. I met great people, shared experiences with friends, and that really built strong knowledge for me.
